Dear reader!
Do you know the feeling that ‘something’ is blocking you, which prevents you from finding the entrance to the highway of Western Esoterics?
Chances are that this is caused by cultural traumas, because of the violent religious history of our Western culture. Without you being consciously aware of it, this can a blockage in your spiritual development.
The coming weeks I want to point out seven of these big stumbling blocks to you. You will receive seven meditations from me that you can use to shed some light on these blockages and which may help you to outgrow them. The subjects of these series will increase in intensity every time, so keep a close watch to these series of articles!
The first presumption is:
There is only one road to heaven (ours) and there are a limited amount of entree tickets.

How does this presumption influence your spirituality?
On the spiritual forums on the internet there is that continuous buzz at the background. ‘I know better than you, I am further than you, I am more enlightened than you.’ The reaction of the other is understandably hostile.
Or you get the opposite; every discussion ends in a creepy fluffiness that creates an unhealthy atmosphere of beating around the bush. Everything has to fit in and all participants having a different opinion are accused of having a ‘big ego’.
We are the ones, the only ones, let all the rest get damned,
now open up the Pearly Gates, we cannot have heaven crammed!
This urge to be the holiest is rooted in the power struggle that was fought in the Middle ages between the church and the State. The church claimed the monopoly on spirituality. This caused a real dictatorship. Different viewpoints were not tolerated and for them there was one end solution; the stake!
The dictatorship was broken by the reformation, by waving the pedantic finger even more severe. This causes a countermovement that you even hear in our time; ‘Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law’, and this opens the doors to spiritual selfishness and abuse of spiritual forces.
Purification
This causes one of the most important spiritual techniques to be held hostage in political battles. This technique is called ‘purification’, and it is based on self-knowledge. Its goal is to develop all your potential talents, and offers the key to the spiritual process of enlightenment and redemption in Western Mysticism.

Purification is a method whereby you can develop yourself spiritually. It is not about conquering the ‘others’. It is an internal process between you and the divine, whereby the Gods hold a mirror in front of you.
Meditation 7
Create a beautiful place for yourself. Sit down in meditation and gather your thoughts and associations around this theme.
There is no true protection, except for the protection which is granted by the accomplishment of the work of the Gods. The only true servant is he who is a copper mirror for the Unmanifested God.
Write down your associations afterwards, and watch what happens during the day. I am very curious about your experiences, and look forward to reading your reactions on my blog.

No different than the North American Native circles or Eastern Religions.
As for meditation 7, the experience for me in the quote is taking away any personal power or connection we have to take care of ourselves and create our own protection. Gods are capricious and we project upon them what most are within themselves. And once again, who is the true servant? That group or person who declares themselves to be that? For what reason do we keep focusing on the Unknowable?
Your posts are quite informative.

Dear Rick
Thanks for your comment. The ancient Egyptian religion and Babylonian religion are the original sources of Western Mysticism. To reconnect to our cultural sources makes you aware of the deviations that were made during the time for political reasons. It is logical that these teachings are similar to the Indian and Eastern traditions. Hermetic Mysticism and magic reconnects to these ancient sources, and the tradition is gnostic; you learn to make an individual connection to the divine, without an intermediate. The role of the teacher is to be a tourguide, and not a guri :-)
I don't agree that the Gods are projections, they are huge forces, we are a part of them, not the other way round.
Great insights! Now try to leave the thinking out, and try to make a connection using your intuition :-)
Good point on the thinking, as I tend to do that a little too much. I did do another meditation last night before bed and it was a somewhat different outcome. Yes, we are part of them and perhaps in our fall somewhere, we started to create many in our own image.
